What is your animal? Discover your companions in SoulCollage®

Perhaps you recognize this: sometimes you feel drawn to a certain animal, without knowing exactly why. As if there's something in that image that resonates with you, even before you can explain it.

Within SoulCollage®, we call these cards companions. These are cards that connect you with your instinct, your life force, and a deeper layer of knowing that lies beyond thought.

What are companions in SoulCollage®?

Companions are often animals or symbolic images that represent something within you that you may not yet fully consciously know, but can feel.

For example, consider:

  • a bird that stands for freedom
  • a wolf that shows vigilance or intuition
  • a bear that represents strength and protection

These images speak a different language than words. They touch something in your body, in your feelings, in your intuition. And precisely for this reason, they can be so valuable.

Working with what you don't immediately understand

Unlike some other SoulCollage® cards, with companions you don't always need to immediately understand what they mean. In fact, it often works the other way around.

  • You choose an image that attracts you.
  • You make a card from it.
  • And only then does the process of discovery begin.

Perhaps a card first only feels "right," without you being able to say why. And that's enough. By working with it later, more clarity often emerges naturally.

The language of instinct and body

Companions often work on a more physical level. You feel them:

  • in tension or relaxation
  • in movement or stillness
  • in an impulse to do or not do something

These are signals that you can't always logically explain, but they do provide direction. Especially in a world where we think a lot, these cards can help you trust what you already know, without having to understand it first.

A different access point to yourself

Where inner parts often deal with thoughts and emotions, and community cards with relationships and connection, companions open a different entry point. They bring you closer to:

  • your instinct
  • your energy
  • your natural strength

They let you feel what wants to come into motion.

Exercise: letting a companion speak

Do you want to experience for yourself what a companion can mean for you? Then try this exercise:

  1. First, take a moment to be still and bring your attention inward.
  2. Ask yourself: Which animal or image feels important to me right now?
  3. Browse through images or look at what you have already collected. Don't be guided by logic, but by what attracts your attention.
  4. Choose one image and make a SoulCollage® card from it. Lay the card in front of you and take time to look at it and check in with yourself.
  5. Then read the card using the “I am one who…” process.
    1. For example:
I am one who… is alert and waits for the right moment to present itself.
      or
I am one who… is powerfully present without having to prove anything.
Let the words come naturally, without trying to control them.
  6. Write down your reading process or record it with your phone.

You might notice that this companion reflects something that is already present within you, but was not yet fully visible.

Working with companions in your daily life

You can also use your companions at other times.
For example:

  • when you have to make a choice
  • when you doubt
  • when you need direction

By simply looking at your card, you can feel what resonates. Not because the card gives the "answer," but because it helps you listen to yourself again.

Room to keep discovering

Companions often don't fully reveal themselves all at once. They change with you. Or you discover new layers constantly.

👉 When you notice that you want to create and work with cards more often, it can be helpful to regularly revisit this process. In the SoulCollage® Studio, you get the space to work with your cards monthly and continue to follow your own process in a calm and deepening way.

Why are you drawn to a particular animal in SoulCollage®?

You are often drawn to an animal because it reflects something that is already within you or that you wish to develop. This usually happens on an intuitive level, without you being able to explain it right away.

How do you recognize the meaning of a companion card?

You don't just recognize the meaning of a companion card by looking at it, but primarily by feeling what the image evokes in your body. Often, the meaning emerges gradually as you work with the card.

What is the difference between a Companion and an Archetype in SoulCollage®?

A companion often feels personal and instinctive, whereas an archetype is more universal and general. Companions work closer to your body and emotions, while archetypes represent a broader, more symbolic layer.

How do you use companions in your daily life?

You can use a companion card by glancing at it when you're in doubt or seeking direction. The card helps you to feel what's right, instead of just thinking about what you should do.
