How to work with your ancestors in SoulCollage®
You can organize your SoulCollage® cards into different groups. One of these is the Community Suit, which includes cards related to people, animals, or places that are important to you.
Sometimes, we primarily think of people we know from our current lives for this suit. But your ancestors also belong to this circle. They are part of the lineage from which you come, whether you knew them or not.
👉 In the workshop journey through the SoulCollage® groups, you will gain more insight into how these different card suits are interconnected.
Making cards for your ancestors
If you want to make a card for an ancestor, you can use photos if you have them. If you don't have visual material, you can also use images of people who resemble your ancestor or who represent the same energy for you.
You can set an intention beforehand to create a card for a specific person, or leave it open for whichever ancestor wants to reveal themselves. It often helps not to control the process, but to let your subconscious do the work.
Sometimes a card is created in this way, and you only later understand why those particular images appeared.
The influence of your family system
In systemic work, it is assumed that connections exist at an energetic level between people in a family. You are part of a larger whole and sometimes consciously, sometimes unconsciously, carry something of that lineage with you.
By working with SoulCollage® cards, you can explore these connections without having to understand everything rationally. Through imagery and the “I am one who…” process, information can become visible that you might not have been able to conceive with your mind.
Exercise: Letting an ancestor speak through your card
If you want to work with your ancestors, you can try the following:
First, take a moment to reflect on the intention that a card may emerge for an ancestor who wants to show something at this moment.
Then, create or choose a card that fits this. Trust that the right image will present itself, even if you don't know exactly why.
Then, read the card using the “I am one who…” process.
Let the card speak from the voice of the person who appears on the card. What wants to be told? What message, strength, or memory wants to reveal itself?
Write down what comes, without judgment. The meaning often only becomes clear later.
Connection with your lineage
Working with ancestral cards can provide a sense of grounding and connection. Sometimes a card shows where strength comes from, sometimes where something needs to be seen or released.
You don't have to force anything; just listening to what wants to show itself is enough.
