Do you want to start with SoulCollage® and wonder what it is exactly and how to begin? SoulCollage® is an intuitive, creative method where you use images to create personal cards that provide insight into yourself. What is SoulCollage®?

SoulCollage® is a method where you create collage cards with images that reflect different parts of yourself and your life.

You choose images that appeal to you, without necessarily knowing why. By bringing these images together on a card, something emerges that often says more than you could have imagined beforehand.

After that, you work with your card using a special reading process. This reading process is simple and accessible and is described below. Insight arises through the reading process. Not by analyzing, but by listening to what becomes visible through the image.

How does SoulCollage® work?

SoulCollage® consists of two simple steps: creating cards and reading cards.

You start by collecting images. These can be images from magazines or prints that appeal to you. You cut them out and make a collage on a card.

Then you take the time to read your card. You look at it, feel what it evokes, and give the card a voice by starting with:

"I am the one who..." And then you write down everything that comes to mind. Or you ask a friend to write down your voice.

You don't have to figure out what should come. Often you notice that the words arise naturally.

This way, you learn step by step to listen to what lives within you, through the cards you create.

What do you need to get started?

To start, you only need a few things:

  • Cardboard (5 x 8 inch / 12.7 x 20.4 cm)

Where do you start with SoulCollage®?

The first step is often the most important. Not because it's complicated, but because you cross the threshold from thinking to doing.

Many people find it enjoyable not just to read, but also to experience it directly. Therefore, a good first step is the free mini workshop SoulCollage®. There, you'll create your first card step-by-step and discover how it works for you.

Who is SoulCollage® for?

SoulCollage® is for anyone who wants to look at themselves and life in a different way.

It suits you if you:

  • want to gain more insight into yourself
  • enjoy working with images
  • need peace and reflection
  • want to be creatively active without pressure to perform

You don't need to have any experience. Especially if you think you're "not creative," SoulCollage® can be surprisingly accessible.

What can you expect when you start?

The first time you make a card, it often feels simple. You choose an image, stick it on, and look at it.

And yet, often more happens than you expect. An image can touch something, make something visible, or evoke a feeling you haven't looked at in that way before.

Sometimes it's immediately clear what a card means. Sometimes it's not. Both are fine. The process isn't about quick understanding, but about discovering what reveals itself.

As you make cards more often, a collection emerges. You start to see connections, recognize patterns, and notice that your cards help you look at situations differently.

How do you make your first SoulCollage® card?

Want to start right away? Here's how:

  • Collect a number of images
  • Choose one image that catches your attention
  • Cut it out and glue it onto a card
  • Take a moment to look at your card
  • Start with: “I am the one who…” and let the card speak

That's all there is to it. You don't have to do it perfectly. Starting is enough.

Frequently asked questions

What do you need to start with SoulCollage®?

You only need a few supplies to get started: sturdy 5-by-8-inch cardboard, images, scissors, and glue. With these, you can make your first card right away. Many people start with magazines they already have at home. If you want to make things easier for yourself, you can also use a starter kit that includes everything you need.

Do you have to be creative for SoulCollage®?

No, you don’t have to be creative in the sense of drawing or designing. SoulCollage® isn’t about artistic talent, but about working with images that speak to you. In fact, people who think they aren’t creative often find that this approach suits them well, because it’s intuitive and free.

How long does it take to create a SoulCollage card?

That varies depending on the moment and the card. Sometimes you can create a card in ten to fifteen minutes, for example when an image immediately speaks to you. Other cards take more time, because you spend longer searching for the right combination of images. There’s no set time frame; the important thing is to follow the process as it unfolds.

What if I don't know what my card means?

That's perfectly normal, especially at the beginning. You don't need to immediately understand what a card means. Often, meaning only emerges when you read the card using the “I am the one who…” process, or when you look at it again later.

Can I do SoulCollage® by myself?

Yes, you can certainly do SoulCollage® independently, right at your kitchen table. Many people start that way. At the same time, it can be valuable to occasionally work together in a workshop or group, as you'll discover new perspectives and deepen your process. Both forms can coexist.
